College Expenses

Under Illinois law, in determining each party’s obligation to contribute to their children’s college expenses, the Court will consider the respective income and financial resources of each party and their household. College expenses generally include room and board, tuition, transportation, application fees, books, healthcare expenses and living expenses.

It is important to have attorneys who understand when it is best to petition the court regarding allocation of college expenses, as well as the importance of including the proper language in divorce or parentage settlement agreements regarding each parties’ future obligation to contribute to college expenses. The attorneys at Collins Family Law are well equipped to assist parents in college contribution cases.
